Cedar Crossing Community,

Mr. Charlie T. Turner, age 68, of Cedar Crossing, died Tuesday, November 7, 2017, in the St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital in Savannah, after an extended illness.  He was a native of Toombs County, and lived in the Cedar Crossing Community all of his life.  He attended Toombs Central School, and was a 1970 graduate of Montgomery County High School.  He worked with Georgia Power, and the State of Georgia Prison System.  Later, he became an independent contractor, and also farmed throughout his life.  He served on the Toombs County Board of Education, and in 1983, served as the first President of the Toombs County-Vidalia Onion Growers Association.  He was preceded in death by his parents, John Charles Turner and Cassie Mae Willis Turner; and sister, Ketrena Willis.

Mr. Turner is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Elizabeth Turner of Cedar Crossing; three children, Ashley Turner and wife Kelly of Acworth, Lance Turner of Statesboro, and Carla Turner Morey and husband Bo of the Baconton Community in Mitchell County; four grandchildren, Abby Turner, Jace Turner, Anna Morey, and Grier Morey; one sister, Cornelia Ford of Uvalda; two brothers, Rickey McCarty and wife Cathy, and Danny McCarty, all of Cedar Crossing; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, November 9th at 11:00 a.m. in the Cedar Crossing Baptist Church with Pastor Reece Mincey and Reverend Rickey McCarty officiating.  Burial will follow in the Smyrna United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
