Mr. Charles T. “Papa Charles” Clements, age 73, of Vidalia, died Sunday, January 19, 2020 at his home, after a sudden illness. He was a native of Tifton, as a child moved to Fitzgerald and later to Suwannee, Tennessee, where he was a 1965 graduate of St. Andrews School in Suwannee. He moved to Atlanta for a short time and has made Vidalia his home since 1970. Charles was a banker, but one of his biggest assets was his ability to love his family, friends and his community. He served on numerous local boards, including twelve years on the Vidalia City Council and the Vidalia Recreation Department Board of Directors. He was passionate about fishing; and he loved Lake Oconee and Alaska. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Christy Clements Thigpen; his parents, Osmond Moore Clements and Maggie Alene Morton Clements.
Mr. Clements is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Nancy Freeman Clements of Vidalia; one son, Slade Clements of Augusta; four grandchildren, Conner Thigpen, Carolina Thigpen, Catherine Thigpen, all of Vidalia, and Sophya Grace Clements of Augusta; two brothers, David Clements and wife Debbie of Augusta, and Louie Clements of Crawfordville; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 22nd, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Don Moye and Cleve Shultz officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 until 7:00.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Hale Foundation, P.O. Box 2843, Augusta, GA 30914, or to Angels in Flight, P.O. Box 352, Wrightsville, GA 30196.
