Vidalia,
Mr. Charles Wilburn McGowan, Sr., age 89, of Vidalia, died Saturday, November 17, 2018, at his home, after a sudden illness. He was a native of Lake Worth, Florida and graduated high school there. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1948 and then the United States Army in 1950. While in the Army, he served in the Korean War and retired after twenty-two years of service. Later, Charles moved to Vidalia in 1974 and worked for Oxford Industries until his retirement. He attended Smith Street Baptist Church and was a member of Vidalia Masonic Lodge #330. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna McGowan; parents, John and Margaret Booth McGowan; one brother and several sisters.
Mr. McGowan is survived by three children, Deborah McGowan Galbreath and husband Donald of Milledgeville, Charles W. McGowan, Jr. and wife Judy of Birmingham, Alabama, and Dale McGowan of Vidalia; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 21st at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Zorn officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon from 2:00 until just prior to the service.
