Carolyn (Jernigan) Thompson

Mrs. Carolyn Jernigan Thompson, age 97, of Vidalia, died Tuesday, October 15, 2019, in Oxley Park Health and Rehabilitation in Lyons, after an extended illness.  She was born in Wetumpka, Alabama and as a child moved to Monroeville, Alabama and graduated high school there.  She was a graduate of Athens College for Women in Athens, Alabama.  In 1942, she married her late husband and they moved to Vidalia to open his practice.  She was a bookkeeper for the family business, Dr. L.G. Thompson Veterinary Hospital which they operated for forty-three years.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vidalia and also taught Sunday school.  She was a former member of the Pilot Club and Pinecrest Garden Club.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. L.G. Thompson in 2013; parents, John Robert Jernigan and Lottie Mae Killingsworth Jernigan; three sisters, Vera Holton, Sarah Beth Austin and Mary Kay Jernigan.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by three children, Carolyn Gene Thompson Hall of Vidalia, Robert “Robbie: Thompson and wife Dr. Debby Shuman Thompson of Vidalia, and Kay Thompson Brown and husband Davey of Dublin; five grandchildren, Kristi Hall Lane and husband John of Clarkesville, Tennessee, Julie Williams English of Buckhead, Leslie Gene Thompson II and wife Meredith of Smyrna, Lance Davey Brown and wife Allison, and Dr. Dana Kay Davis and husband Chris, all of Alpharetta; nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, October 19th at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Don Moye officiating.  Burial will follow in the Pinecrest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 until 7:00.
