Lyons,
Mr. Bruce E. Powell, age 85, of Lyons, died Thursday, September 20, 2018, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after an extended illness. He was a native of Oak Park, and has lived in Lyons since 1942. He was a truck driver, and retired from Lark Builders after sixteen years. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the 101st Airborne Division. He was Baptist by faith, and as preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Powell Usher; parents, Malcolm Thomas Powell, Sr. and Catherine Love Powell; and ten siblings, Woodrow Powell, “Shorty” Powell, Geneva Fields, Lucille Johnson, Abby Odom, Lee Meeks, Ruby Kramer, Thelma Aaron, Myrtle Calhoun, Ella Veta Davis, and an infant brother Quinton Powell.
Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Elouise Calhoun Powell; two daughters, Linda Powell McGowan and husband James, and Sherry Powell Burton and husband Kenny, all of Lyons; four grandchildren, Jeannie Gilson, Brock Aldrich, Logan McGowan, and Lindsay McGowan; four great-grandchildren, Braylyn, Tyler, Madylyn, and Brett.
A graveside funeral service will be held Monday, September 24th at 11:00 a.m. in Lakeview Memorial Gardens with Reverend David Lamm officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
