Mr. William “Bill” Lee Bernhardt, 78, a former Maryland resident, died Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at his home in Leesburg, Florida. Mr. Bernhardt was born November 19, 1939, in Baltimore, Maryland to Paul and Mary Bernhardt. Bill was incredibly social and made friends wherever he went. He enjoyed traveling and puttering around the house and yard.
Mr. Bernhardt served in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1962, worked for a telecommunications company from 1962-1968, and was an employee at the National Security Agency between 1968 and 1995. Following his retirement from Federal Service, he became a contracted employee in North Yorkshire, England. In December 2005, he retired to Florida.
During retirement, Bill enjoyed taking cruises in the Caribbean as well as Atlantic Ocean crossings with his wife; his outgoing personality ensured that he made friends wherever he went. A man of many talents, Bill’s retirement hobbies included acting. He performed in many short films, commercials, and plays and enjoyed being a part of the theater community.
Bill is survived by his wife of forty years, Georgia Bernhardt; one daughter, Kellie Nieman, two sons, Eric Bernhardt and Lorne Bernhardt; three step-sons, Marvin, David, and Ian Dodd and eleven grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 28th at 2:00 p.m. in the Sharpe Cemetery near Alston with Pastor Chester Proctor officiating.
