Betty Grimes Obituary

Lyons,

Mrs. Betty Grimes, age 79, of Lyons, died Tuesday, July 31, 2018, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after an extended illness.  She was a native of Toombs County, and lived in Lyons most of her life.  She and her late husband were the owners of Thriftway in Lyons.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lyons, and the Women of Faith Sunday School Class.  She was a former member of the Hammond Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, James Grimes; parents, Dewey and Clyde Kramer Maddox; one sister, Nettie Gee; and two brothers, Willard Maddox and Dewey “Pee Wee” Maddox.

Mrs. Grimes is survived by four children, Michael Grimes and wife Bonnie, Mitchell Grimes and wife Gwynnera, Belinda Joyner and husband Pacer, and Michelle Gay and husband Shannon, all of Lyons; one brother, Bobby Maddox and wife Shirley of Middleburg, Florida; ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, August 2nd at 11:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Lyons with Pastor Dannie Williams and Cameron Joyner officiating.  Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5:00 until 8:00.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 627, Lyons GA 30436.
