Sharpe Spur Community,
Mrs. Betty Jean Burns Galbreath, age 87, of the Sharpe Spur Community, Ailey, died Wednesday, March 27, 2019, surrounded by her family in Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, after a brief illness. She was born in Wayne County, grew up in the Kibbee Community, and lived most of her life in Sharpe Spur. Early in her life, she was the overseer of the family’s one hundred acre farm. She worked at Oxford Industries and Toombs Nursing Home for many years. She was a member of the New Corinth Baptist Church. Mrs. Galbreath was preceded in death by two husbands, Hiram Galbreath, Sr. and William Clyde “W.C.” Galbreath; a daughter, Betty Diane Galbreath; a son-in-law, Dan Harrison; parents, Virgil Henry Burns and Mary Delila Williamson Burns; and five siblings, Shirley Ann Burns, Dot Burns, Jack Burns, Bobby Burns, and Reba Braddy.
Mrs. Galbreath is survived by four children, Alicia Harrison McEachin and husband Cadle of Vidalia, Donald Keith Galbreath and wife Deborah of Milledgeville, Hiram Galbreath, Jr. of Sharpe Spur, and Israel Bryan Galbreath and wife Serena of Waynesboro; two sisters, Margie Galbreath of Sharpe Spur and Peggy Thompson and husband James of the Center Community; ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 30th at 11:00 a.m. in the New Corinth Baptist Church with Reverend Emory Fennell and Reverend Bob Corley officiating. Burial will follow in the Galbreath Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
