Vidalia,
Apollon “Achilles” Haygood, age 34, of Vidalia, died Saturday, June 30, 2018, in Chicago, Illinois, after a sudden illness. He was a native of Vidalia, was a 2002 graduate of Vidalia Comprehensive High School, and has lived in Chicago for the past few years. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, and later a Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Achilles worked as a certified registered nursing anesthetist for Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He was an avid photographer and enjoyed traveling, and was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dr. George Sassos and Dr. Elly Sassos; and an uncle, Daniel Davis.
Achilles is survived by his parents, Allen and Vasilia “Val” Haygood; one brother, Aries Haygood and wife Megan; and two nieces, Elly Haygood Elin Haygood; one uncle, Phillip Sassos; one aunt, Cindy Davis; and four cousins, Christina, Joanna, Elly, and Victoria.
A memorial service will be held Friday, 13th at 5:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Dannie Williams and Reverend Joe Siman officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday afternoon from 4:00 until just prior to the service.
