Mr. Andrew Jackson “Andy” Raffield, age 88, of Ailey, died Wednesday, August 9, 2017 in Glenwood Healthcare, after an extended illness. He was a native of Fitzgerald and as a child lived there and Panama City, Florida. He lived in Savannah during World War II, and worked in the shipyards. In the late 1940’s he moved to Ailey, and worked with Thompson Lumber Company for forty-five years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Raffield; a son, Johnny Raffield; parents, Andrew J. Raffield, Sr. and Opal Barnes Raffield; a brother, Jerry Raffield; and a sister, Barbara Raffield Woods.
Mr. Raffield is survived by four sons, Jackie Raffield and wife Leann of Thomson, Darrell Raffield and wife Jodie of Reidsville, Ricky Raffield of Vidalia and Curtis Upchurch; daughter-in-law, Vickie Raffield of Glenwood,; eighteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, twenty-great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 12th at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Mark Jones and Jordan Powell officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Concerted Services of Montgomery County.
