Miss Ala McBride, age 91, of Alston, died Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at The Oaks-Bethany in Vidalia, after an extended illness. She was a lifelong resident of Alston and attended the Alston School and Brewton-Parker in Mt. Vernon. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Valdosta State and a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Georgia. She taught sixth grade in Vidalia for many years, and was the first principal at Sally Meadows Elementary School in Vidalia, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Alston United Methodist Church, where she was church pianist, Sunday school teacher, Trustee and served on the Finance Board. She was a member of the Georgia Retired Teachers Association and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford McBride and Vera Morgan Rawls McBride; and a sister, Lulane McBride.
Miss McBride is survived by cousins Jimmy McBride of Alston, Melvin McBride and wife Diane of Lyons, and Jane McLean Craig of Jacksonville, Florida; and several other cousins.
The funeral service will be held Friday, August 23rd, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Shareon Womack officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinecrest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday afternoon from 1:30 until just prior to the service.
