Marion (Zeigler) Peterson

Mrs. Marion Zeigler Peterson, age 89, of Lyons, died Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Haven Hospice in Lake City, Florida, following an extended illness.  She was a native of Toombs County and lived in Lyons most of her life.  She was a 1952 graduate of Lyons High School, and retired from the Toombs County Board of Education after thirty-three years in 2011, as lunchroom manager.  She was a long-time member of Sharpe’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Lyons.  She enjoyed reading, playing games on her i-pad and board games, sitting on her front porch and tending to her little garden.  She is preceded in death by her husband, William Hugh “Bill” Peterson; and parents, Bowie Reddick Zeigler and Ruthie Mae Harden Zeigler.

Her family includes four children, Cathy Peterson DuPree and husband Steve of Lyons, Cindy Peterson Pittman and husband Mike of Jasper, Connie Peterson Ingle and husband Britt of Soperton, and Andy Peterson and wife Christy of Lyons; two sisters, Betty Zeigler NeeSmith and “Boots” Zeigler, both of Lyons; four grandchildren Beth Pittman of Jasper, Kayla Peterson McDuffie and husband Garrett of Blackshear, Zeke Dupree of Lyons, and McKenzie Ingle of Soperton; one great-granddaughter, Mazie McDuffie; and several nieces and nephews, including Tracy Adams and Wendy NeeSmith, whom she loved as her own.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.

The funeral service will be Thursday afternoon, April 25th, at 3:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Brian Chambers officiating.  Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
