Barbara Ann Hightower Taylor, age 83, of Lyons, died Sunday, March 31, 2024, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, following an extended illness. She was a native of Toombs County and lived in Lyons most of her life. She was a 1958 graduate of Reidsville High School where she played basketball, and a 2000 graduate of Southeastern Technical College. She was a member of Elza Baptist Church. She was one of the first Oxford Industries employees in Vidalia, and when the plant was closed, Barbara was the last seamstress to leave after thirty-seven years. She enjoyed collecting ceramic chickens, planting flowers and working in her yard. She was an avid reader and could easily read a novel every day. She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy Fred Hightower and Katie Inez Hadden Hightower.
Her family includes three children, Buddy Toole of Lyons, Robert Toole and wife Ann Michele of Vidalia, and Bobbie Morris and husband Jerry of Lyons; one sister, Sandra Best of Vidalia; one brother, Roy Hightower and wife Linda of Florida; six grandchildren, Charlie Morris of Reidsville, Megan Morris, Vance Toole and wife Tara, all of Vidalia, Dylan Toole and wife Julia of Santa Claus, and Madison Toole, Mason Toole, both of Vidalia; five great-grandchildren, Oliver, Rhett, Weston, Annaleigh, and Lochlan; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 until 8:00.
The funeral service will be Wednesday morning, April 3rd, at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Daniel Caraway officiating. Burial will follow at Marvin Church Cemetery.
