Vidalia,
Mr. Gaston James Wilkes, age 83 of Vidalia, died Saturday, April 7, 2012. He distinguished himself as a Toombs County citizen, church leader, businessman and a leader amongst the business Community; and has set an example for fairness and judiciousness and has earned the respect of many people throughout middle Georgia. The Wilkes family is among the earliest settlers of Toombs and Montgomery County and have for many distinguished generations set an example of citizenship and community involvement. He was preceded in death by a son James Douglas Wilkes and his parents, Otis L. Wilkes and Vannie Lou Moxley Wilkes.
 
Mr. Wilkes is survived by his wife, Lou Williams Wilkes of Vidalia; three daughters, Charlotte Stephens of Dublin, Emily Bowen of Vidalia and Melanie Wilkes and husband Keith White of Hilton Head, South Carolina; three step-sons, David Collins of Flowery Branch, Drew Collins of Edison and Marshall Collins of Tifton; one sister, Jean Chesser and husband Wade of Vidalia; mother-in-law, Anna Marshall Williams of Albany; five grandchildren, Stephanie Piccione, Brandy Siegel, Jennifer Raciti, Jed W. Hill and Brian Blount; six step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, Clay McGuire, Jack Raciti, Ashby Hill and Lilly Hill; and several nieces and nephews.
 
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 10th at 1:00 pm in the Vidalia Presbyterian Church with Reverend Kevin Hicks and Reverend L. Craig Wilkes officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinecrest Cemetery.
 
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 5:00 until 7:00.
 
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Vidalia Presbyterian Church, 400 Church St., Vidalia, GA 30474.
