Mrs. Willie Mae “Petesy” Smith, age 76, of Lyons, died Friday, February 20, 2015 in Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, after an extended illness.  She as a native of Toombs County, a 1956 graduate of Toombs Central High School and still actively involved in organizing the Class of 1955 and 1956 Class Reunions.  She was a registered nurse and a 1986 graduate of Middle Georgia College in Cochran, earning a Nursing Degree.  She worked at Meadows Memorial Hospital, Bethany Home, and Care One Home Health.  Before her nursing career, she lived in Savannah for twenty-three years, and while there was a director for Mary Kay Cosmetics for numerous years, and received countless awards for her achievements.  She was a licensed Coast Guard Captain, and was a part of a charter boat fleet out of Savannah.  She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Lyons.  She enjoyed crappie fishing at Lake Sinclair.  She was preceded in death by an infant son, Eric Allen Smith; parents, Willie and Orene White; and a sister, Margaret “Pete” Jones.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, T.W. Smith; two children, Jackie Santschi and husband Ron, and William “Bill” Smith and wife Linda, all of Lyons; five siblings, Delilah Stephens of Lyons, James White and wife Brenda of Savannah, Jerald “Newey” White and wife Shirley of Lyons, Bessie Halter of Jacksonville, Florida, and Johnny White of Vidalia; two grandchildren, Kathryn Turner and Michelle Sikes both of Lyons; four great-grandchildren, Kayla, Mason, Layla, and Blake; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 25th at 11:00 a.m. in the Liberty Baptist Church with Reverend Michael Plowman and Reverend Don Gibbs officiating.  Burial will follow in the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Liberty Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 410, Lyons GA 30436.
