Lyons,

Mr. Sam Rockett, age 81, of Lyons, died Saturday, December 23, 2017, at his home, after a sudden illness.  He was a native of Lyons, and attended Lyons High School.  He lived in Fairmont, Minnesota and Savannah for several years, in Montezuma for twenty-seven years, and returned to Lyons in 1997.  He was a truck driver for forty-six years, and retired from Kelsey Axle.  He was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Statesboro.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Mahue and Katie Jordan Rockett.

Mr. Rockett is survived by his wife of sixty years, Ruth Koehler Rockett of Lyons; three children, Cregg Rockett of Montezuma, Scarlett Smith and husband Bobby of Athens, and Laurie Mullis and husband Tommy of Perry; six grandchildren, Patrick Rockett, Candace Horne and husband Matt, Sam Smith and wife Jamie, Stephen Smith and wife Catherine, Dana Avera, and Thomas Mullis; and ten great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 26th at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Sam Clay and Reverend Trent Akins officiating.  Burial will follow in the Lyons City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday afternoon from 2:00 until just prior to the service.
