Lyons,

Reverend Edward Mimbs, age 75, of Lyons, died Tuesday, April 7, 2015 in the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, after a sudden illness.  He was a native of Johnson County, and was a 1957 graduate of Adrian High School.  He was a graduate of the Georgia Baptist Bible Institute in Norman Park, earning a Master Degree in Pastoral Ministry in 1977.  He began his ministry in 1959, and pastored eleven churches in Georgia, including Higgston Baptist Church, twelve years at Altamaha Baptist Church in Wayne County, Brookfield Baptist Church in Tift County, and most recently was interim pastor at Vidalia Baptist Temple where he was also a member.  He served three missions during his ministry, two of which later became churches.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Emory Daniel Mimbs and Elgie Ree Forth Mimbs; grandson, Jeffery Lee Mimbs; and sister, Jeanette Mimbs Tapley.

Reverend Mimbs is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Marjorie Spivey Mimbs of Lyons; three children, Randall Lee Mimbs and wife Vickie of Lyons, Roderick Edward Mimbs of Palmdale, California, and Selena Marie Mimbs Lockley and husband Larry of Lyons; one sister, Jean Mimbs Payton and husband Dean of Thomson; six grandchildren, Casey Leigh Mantuano and husband Al of Port Wentworth, Justin Edward Mimbs of Savannah, Raymond Thomas Horne of Vidalia, and Amanda Marie Horne Montford and husband Kyle of Vidalia, Misty Genet Perryman of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and Ashley Renae' Horne Pope of Ludowici;  three great-grandchildren, Al Mantuano, IV, Alaina Mantuano, and Avery Montford; and several nieces and nephews.       

The funeral service will be held Friday, April 10th at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Dr. Mark Wiggins and Reverend Scottie Pitts officiating.  A private family burial will follow in the Carter’s Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery in Laurens County.

Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Meadows Healthcare Foundation, One Meadows Parkway, Vidalia GA.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
