Mrs. Rebecca Duckworth Van Dyke, age 87, of Vidalia, died Saturday, September 24, 2016 in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after an extended illness. She was a native of Oak Park, was a graduate of Oak Park High School, and lived all of her adult life in Vidalia. She retired from AT&T after thirty-five years of service, and was a Scout Leader for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vidalia, the Winsome Sunday School Class, and also taught Sunday school. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis A. Van Dyke; a son, Donnie Carlton Van Dyke; parents, Henry Carlton Duckworth and Mary Joiner Duckworth; and was the youngest, and last of twelve siblings.
Mrs. Van Dyke is survived by four children, Patricia McCullough and husband Bill of Wadley, Lewis Van Dyke and wife Bonnie of Lyons, Becky Van Dyke of Vidalia, and Robbie Van Dyke and Sheila of Lyons; four grandchildren, Samantha, Madison, and Katherine Van Dyke, and Gabe Garrett and wife Monica; two great-grandchildren, Hadley and Lila Garrett; numerous nieces and nephews; and caregivers, Pam McLeod and Teri Johnson.
The funeral service will be held Monday, September 26th at 3:00 p.m. in the Historic Sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Vidalia with Reverend Don Moye and Reverend Lee Gaston officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinecrest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
