Otis Jerald Miller

Mr. Otis Jerald Miller, age 75, of Lyons, died, Sunday, February 7, 2016 in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after an extended illness.  He was a native of Lyons, and was a 1959 graduate of Lyons High School.  Soon after high school, he entered the U.S. Army, and retired as a Staff Sergeant after twenty-two years of service.  He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, and was the recipient of several medals, including the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with sixty Device, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm.  He also retired from civil service from Ft. Carson, Colorado as logistics Supply Sergeant.  He was a member of the Disabled Veterans Association, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was Baptist by faith, and was preceded in death by a daughter, Selena Jean Miller; a son, Otis Jerald Miller, Jr.; parents, Charlie Miller and Eula Mae Miller Brantley Beasley; one sister, Mary Ruth Salters; and two brothers, Cecil Miller and Grant Miller.

Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Barbara Jo Moss Miller of Lyons; three children, Lisa Jo Surtees and husband Joseph of Newcastle, England, Audra Stephens and husband Larry of Madison, and Tonia Tyler and husband Bobby of Hartsville, South Carolina; one brother, Earvin Miller and wife Ovita of Pooler; eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 10th at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Robert Greene officiating.  Burial will follow in the Snow Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Wheeler County with military honors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
