Mrs. Odessa Wiggins O’Neal, age 91, of the Johnson Corner Community, died Thursday, November 24, 2016 in The Oaks at Bethany in Vidalia, after an extended illness.  She was a native of Emanuel County, moving to Toombs County as a child, where she lived all of her life.  She was a 1945 graduate of Toombs Central High School, and earned an Associate Degree from Brewton-Parker College.  She retired from Toombs Central School after twenty-five years, and farmed with her husband all their married life.  She was a member of the Hardens Chapel United Methodist Church, and served as Secretary/Treasurer for many years.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Maxwell O’Neal in 1994; parents, E.G. and Julia Elizabeth Scott Wiggins; and a son-in-law, Michael T. Joyner, Sr.

Mrs. O’Neal is survived by one daughter, Janice O’Neal Joyner of Vidalia; one son, Dane O’Neal of Los Angeles, California; one brother, Joe Wiggins and wife Emma of Tifton; two step-grandchildren, Katie Barber and husband Kirk, and Michael T. Joyner, Jr. and wife Katie, all of Savannah; two step-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Gilbert Anderson and wife Dean of Toombs County; sister-in-law, Lynette O’Neal of Davenport, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, November 27th at 2:00 p.m. in the Hardens Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Carroll Gay and Reverend Jarrell Lillard officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hardens Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 5:00 until 7:00.
