Vidalia,

Mrs. Mildred Smith Barker, Vidalia, age 99, died Thursday, May 19, 2016 in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after a brief illness.  She was a native of Tattnall County, a graduate of Reidsville High School and Georgia Southern College, now Georgia Southern University.  Having taught in several schools before coming to Vidalia in 1942, she retired in 1973 after teaching third grade for thirty-five years.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Vidalia, Era Alexander Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, and Meadows Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, serving there forty years.  She was chosen Vidalia's Lady of the Year in 1980.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Ellison Smith, one brother William Keith Smith, all of Reidsville, and her husband H.D. (Buster) Barker of Vidalia.

Mrs. Barker is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Sue Barker of Vidalia, one grandson, Clay and his wife Abbie Barker, Suwanee, GA; two granddaughters and husbands, Kimberly and Al Phillips, Thomaston, GA and  Nikki and Anthony Bailey, Vidalia; three great-granddaughters, Ally Phillips, Thomaston, Ga, Brantley Grace Bailey, Bryleigh Kate Bailey, one step-great- granddaughter Toni Bailey, all of Vidalia and several cousins.

The funeral service will be held Monday May 23rd at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend David Blalock and Robert Greene officiating.  Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5:00 until 8:00.
