Mr. Merwin Lyon, age 69, of Lyons, died Wednesday, July 13, 2016 in the Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia, after an extended illness.  He was born in Cuba, New York, and in 1955 moved with his family to Bradenton, Florida.  He lived in Bradenton until moving to New Branch in 2011.  He Worked with Tropicana for many years, and retired as a telemarketer from Scarbrough.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam, and was awarded the Air Medal for Heroism while serving as crew chief on a helicopter.  He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He was a former member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Bradenton, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lyons, where he was a member of the Men’s Improvement Club at the church.  He was preceded in death by his parents, T.J. and Eleanor Vaughn Lyon.

Mr. Lyon is survived by one daughter, Anna Marie Lyon of Bradenton; two sisters, Marilyn Cowart of New Branch, and Carol Hess and husband Dexter of Bradenton; and two grandsons, Ashton Ivey and Titan Ivey of Bradenton.

A memorial service will be held at Saturday, October 22nd at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Morrow officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
