Lyons,

Mrs. Martha Knight, age 83, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, April 14th, 2015 in Oxley Park Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lyons, following a period of declining health.  Mrs. Knight was a native of Vidalia, where her father, D. L. Carter ran the Train Depot, and a construction company.  Mrs. Knight moved to Jacksonville, Florida with her husband, where he worked in the shipyards for 20 plus years, and returned to Vidalia in 1969.  Mrs. Knight was the long-time operator and founder of the famous Old-Fashioned 10-layer cakes made by Martha's Kitchen Bakery, known far and wide for their goodness since 1976.  She was a member of St. Matthews Church of God.  She was preceded in death by her husband, L.E. Knight in 2010; parents, David L. Carter and Bernice Hodges Carter, and granddaughter, Lindsey Knight. 

Mrs. Knight was a wonderful and precious mother to five children, including two daughters, Elaine Coleman and husband Charles of Lyons, and Elizabeth Coward and husband Billy of Rock Hill, South Carolina; three sons, Gene Knight of Lyons, Vance Knight and wife Sheryl of Uvalda, and Lloyd Knight and wife Lara of Nashville, Tennessee; one brother, David Jack Carter and wife Mary Helen, her twin sister Margret Lewis, sisters Carolyn Frost and Grace Wall Sharpe; and a special family friend, Jennifer Knight of Lyons; thirteen grandchildren, Landon and Brandon Coleman, Beth Coward, Amanda Fields, Angie Waller, Gabrielle Knight, Mathew Knight, Miranda Smith, Keri Lynn Knight, Stormy Knight, Dakota Knight, Cayla Achenbach, Carra Knight; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A "Celebration of Life" service with family, friends, and church members will be held Sunday, April 19th at 1:00 pm at the St. Matthews Church of God.

At a later date, Mr. and Mrs. Knight will be joined together at their final earthly resting place during a private family service at Pinecrest Cemetery in Vidalia.
