Mrs. Lois O’Neal Wilkes, age 80 of Vidalia, died Sunday, December 27, 2009 in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness. She was a lifelong resident of Toombs County, retired from Oxford Industries after many years of service, and was a member of the Collins Primitive Baptist Church near Lyons. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cannie Wilkes, her parents, Henry and Ethel Wilder O’Neal; three brothers, Wade, Earnest and J. B. O’Neal, and one sister, Martha “Shag” NeeSmith.

 

Mrs. Wilkes is survived by two daughters, Shirley Wilkes Smith and husband Earl and Peggy Wilkes Hart and husband Taylor all of Vidalia one brother, Thomas Randolph “Ram” O’Neal and wife Trena of Vidalia; one sister, Sara Padgett of Lawrenceville, four grandchildren, James Donald Smith of Fredericksburg, Virginia; Audria Williams of Salem, Ohio; Shannon Hart and Kelly Hart both of Vidalia, and several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 29^th at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Dr. Keith Tipton and Reverend Reece Mincey officiating. Interment followed in the Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
