Mrs. Lila Odom, age 95, of Lyons, died Sunday, November 15, 2015, in the The Oaks at Bethany Assisted Living in Vidalia, after an extended illness.  She was a native of Sylvester, Georgia, graduated high school there, and has lived in Lyons since the early 1940’s when she met her husband.  She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, and a Master’s Degree from Georgia Southwestern in Americus, both in Education.  Early in her career, she taught Home Economics, and later, third grade at Lyons Elementary School.  She was a member of the Georgia Retired Teachers Association, the Lyons Garden Club, and the Hill Climbers.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lyons, and a former Sunday school teacher.  She was an avid card player, cook, traveler, and seamstress.  She enjoyed spending time with her family.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Stacy Odom; parents, William L. Boynton and Willie Cannon Boynton; and was last of eight children.

Mrs. Odom is survived by three children, Jim Odom and wife Patsy of Macon, Teresa Odom Atkins and husband Billy of Jacksonville, Florida, and Phillip Odom and wife Sally of Auburn, Alabama; six grandchildren, Lisa Winters and husband Greg of Macon, Anna Gail Justice and husband Jack of Macon, Brad Odom and wife Alison of Gainesville, Georgia, Kimberly Ark and husband Chris of Jacksonville, Ashleigh Norman and husband Jeff of Lakeland, Tennessee, and Gretchen Brown of Auburn; seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 18th at 11:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Lyons with Reverend Dannie Williams officiating.  A private family burial will follow in the Lyons City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday morning from 10:00 until just prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 627, Lyons, GA 30436.
