South Thompson Community,

Mrs. Leartis Vinson Spires, age 81, of the South Thompson Community, died Thursday, March 12, 2015 while visiting her granddaughter in New Mexico.  She was a native of Toombs County, living in Callahan, Florida for several years, but in Toombs County most of her life.  She was a homemaker, and was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Spires; daughter, Carol Spires Glisson; parents, Zeb and Ruby Whitaker Vinson; and two sisters, Juanita Kirkland and Diddle Lawrence.

Leartis is survived by one son, Willie “Ghost” Spires of Vidalia; one brother, R.T. Vinson and wife Faye of Lyons; grandchildren, Carra Denmark and  Rusty Glisson of Uvalda, Justin Spires of Vidalia, Shannon Spires of Uvalda, Randy Spires of Jacksonville, Florida, and Amanda Clark of Lyons; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

The graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 17th at 4:00 p.m. in Lakeview Memorial Gardens with Bishop Gilbert Wommack officiating.

The family will receive friends at Lakeview Memorial Gardens on Tuesday afternoon from 2:00 until just prior to the service.
