Mr. Johnny Coleman, age 78, of the Ponderosa Community, died Tuesday, June 30, 2015 in Georgia Regents Medical Center in Augusta, after an extended illness. He was born in Oak Park, lived in Toombs County most of his life, and in the Ponderosa Community since 1961. He was the owner of Coleman Meats for many years and was a charter member and Deacon of Liberty Baptist Church in Lyons. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed coon hunting as well as horseback riding. He was the bass singer for several years with the Psalmists Gospel Group. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Crystal Rae Coleman Edwards in 2003; his parents, Arthur and Alma Coleman; and two sisters, Mattie Lou Brantley and an infant sister, Christeen.
Mr. Coleman is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Lucy Sikes Coleman of Ponderosa; two daughters, Cindy Coleman Smith and husband Terry of Lyons, and Rachel Brantley Veach and husband Paul of Little Rock, Arkansas; one sister, Peggy Rousch and husband Melvin of Ponderosa; eight grandchildren, Dillion Taylor, John Smith and wife Ginger, Cole Smith, Regina Veach, Jonathan Veach, Jessica Veach, Steven Veach and Laura Veach; and three great-grandchildren, Gabe Smith, Kainan Smith and Khloe Smith.
The funeral service will be held Friday, July 3rd at 2:00 p.m. in Liberty Baptist Church with Reverend Michael Plowman and Reverend Don Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow in Waters Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
