Mr. John P. Brinson, age 53, of Cedar Crossing, died Wednesday, July 5, 2017, in St. Frances Medical Center in Midlothian, Virginia, after an extended illness.  He was a native of Savannah, and lived most of his life in Toombs County.  He was medically retired from Union Camp in Savannah after several years.  He was a member of the South Thompson Baptist Church, and was actively involved with the youth.  He was a Civil War enthusiast, enjoyed playing the trumpet, chess, basketball, and taking family to the movies.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Willene Brinson; a brother, George Brinson; and a sister, Tammy Marie Fountain.

Mr. Brinson is survived by his father, George W. Brinson of Cedar Crossing; one sister, Faith Susan Freyermuth and husband Johnnie of Fairmont; one brother, Stephen Brinson and wife Katie of South Chesterfield, Virginia;  one sister-in-law, Tammy Brinson Harrelson; one brother-in-law, David Fountain; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, July 9th at 3:00 p.m. in the South Thompson Baptist Church with Pastor B.L. Horne, Reverend Ron Cobb, and Pastor Reece Mincey officiating.  Burial will follow in the Sharpe Cemetery near Alston.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.

Memorial donation may be made to the John P. Brinson Memorial Fund to be given to the Son’s of the Confederacy, C/O Altamaha Bank, P.O. Box 489, Vidalia GA 30475.
