James Loy “Scotty” Scott, Jr., 74, passed away on December 30, 2015 from a short illness.  He resided in Lyons, GA and is survived by his wife, Linda Register Scott; three sons:  Steve Scott of Brevard, NC, Chris Scott and daughter-in-law Melanie and James Scott and daughter-in-law Cathy of Richmond Hill, GA and their mother, Sallie Winn Stafford.  Also surviving are two sisters, Lou Rita and brother-in-law Tom Darrah, Moreland, GA and Glennis and brother-in-law Ronnie Statts of Dallas, GA, sister-in-law Alice Scott, wife of deceased brother Wilbur Scott and former spouse Tess Atkins.  James Scott is also survived by grandchildren Alex and husband Shaun, Ashley, Chrissie, Joey, Chris,Tristan, Trevor, JJ, Lily, Atticus, and Coley, and Great-Grandchildren, Emma, Charlotte, and Isabella. As a young man, Mr. Scott played baseball for coach Zell Miller at Young Harris College, going on to serve in the United States Marine Corp and Reserves.  After being honorably discharged, he had a long and successful career in industrial sales and management in the Augusta area.  Scotty lived most of his adult life in Augusta, GA.  As a member of the First Baptist Church in Augusta, Scotty was committed to many volunteer and service activities, acting as a lay minister for Leighton Ford Crusades in Augusta and on ministry trips to Perth, Australia.  Scotty was also known for his passionate love of sport and enjoyment of physical fitness and outdoor activities.  He was a lifelong runner, enjoyed biking, golf, fishing, and all activities on the water.  Combining his love of sport and commitment to service, Scotty was the President of the West Side High School Athletics Booster Club and ran multiple marathons to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. After retiring from industry, Mr. Scott followed in his father's footsteps and became a minister, serving as the pastor of Center United Methodist Church near Vidalia, GA, until retiring in 2009.  After retiring from the ministry, Scotty continued to serve local churches by giving sermons upon request, leading bible study groups, and acting as a mentor in local schools and businesses.  Scotty continued to be an avid runner until the last two months of his life. 

Family and friends are invited to join in a memorial celebration of Scotty’s life at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at Center United Methodist Church (Ga.
