Mt. Vernon,

Mr. James C. Humphrey, age 78, of Mt. Vernon, died, Thursday, June 9, 2016 in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after a brief illness.  He was a native of Montgomery County, and lived all of his life in Mt. Vernon.  He retired after thirty-four years as a lieutenant from the Georgia Department of Corrections at Montgomery State Prison.  Previously, he served in the Army National Guard, on the Mt. Vernon City Council, and the Mt. Vernon Volunteer Fire Department.  He was a member of the Mt. Vernon Methodist Church, and attended Calvary’s Grace Baptist Church in Ailey.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Clein Humphrey and Earline Wilkes Humphrey.

Mr. Humphrey is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Mary Ann Humphrey; one son, Carl Humphrey and wife Jan of Forsyth; one daughter, Michelle Hill and husband Gordon of Hickory, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Ashley, Dylan, and Taylor Hill, and Claudia and Claire Humphrey; and one great-grandchild.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 11th at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Patrick officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9:30 until just prior to the service.
