Carol, Timmons and family. Please know that my heart is heavy as I just read about Hugh's passing. I was and will forever treasure your friendships. I will always sing the praises of my friend Hugh and how he never failed to come up with the answer to one of my many questions about country music. I will cherish our last meeting by the meat counter at Wal Mart.....Your family will remain in my thoughts and prayers. I know that God is hearing some mighty fine country music this day....smile

I will miss "Hugh Baby"! I know I will see him again in Heaven. He was my friend and he has left a lasting impression on me. He definitely was the Music Man. His knowledge of music and musicians was amazing. And boy could he write a song! Ilove him and Mrs. Carol I love you and Timmons too! May God be with you and comfort you.

Dearest Carol and Family, With your sadness, I know you all rejoice in the life Hugh lived. I have enjoyed his music on many occasions. When he came to The Chapel at Santa Claus, it was refreshing to see how God worked thru him even with his limited sight. You have been an angel caring for him, Carol. I pray that you all reflect on happy memories for comfort. God bless you. I love you.

Hugh C. Tomlin..

My buddy for over sixty-five years..

What a character...

Hard headed, opinionated, and as good a friend as I've ever known in this lifetime.

No "fake" to Hugh C..

What you see is what you got...

I liked that.

My wife JoAnn, and I were blessed to have a quality visit with Hugh late Monday morning.. He was pain free, and lucid..

We talked of old times and old memories made together..

And we had made some good ones over the decades..

Hugh and I talked many times about this life, and death and God and we were of the same opinion..

Our opinions were that we are all just "passing through" this life...

Our feelings were expressed by the lyrics of the song "Rock and Roll Heaven", as sung by the Righteous Brothers back in the mid-1970's..

"If you believe in forever"?
"Life is just one-night stand"...

Hugh and I believed in a "forever", and blessedly this day Hugh C. is free of cancer, has perfect vision, and somewhere in "heaven" I'm betting Hugh and his beloved Son, Wyatt, are jamming together for the first time in years.

As we prepared to leave the home of Hugh and Carol Monday morning my wife and I hugged him and told him we loved him, and he returned the sentiment...

How great that the last memory of our old friend was his waving us goodbye and telling us he loved us?

Our hearts go out to his sweet, caring wife Carol, and Sons Thom and Timmons in their loss...

Carol was Hugh's angel in this life for sure..

Hugh C. was "one of a kind"....

And we miss him already..

Jesse & JoAnn

Aunt Carol and Timmons, I'm so sorry I can't be there in person to give you a big hug! Uncle Hugh was a great influence in my life growing up. He was such an amazing man. I will never forget the jam sessions he and Wayne and Wyatt used to have at all the get together and reunions! Most of all I will never forget how much he loved Elvis, and how he would play me an Elvis song everyday when he worked for the radio station. You know he's up there now picking guitars with Elvis, Wyatt, and Wayne! Love you all and miss you very much.

I was lucky enough to see Uncle Hugh a few years back while visiting Georgia with my dad Tommy Cooper. His personality and humor were something I will never forget. Dad always thought of Hugh as a brother and not just a friend. He still tells stories of Hugh, I feel like I have known him forever through dads stories. We grew up listening to Hugh sing gospel music. His voice was heard many times throughout our household. I know my dad missses him, just as we all do. He's a ledgend in our household because of my dad. Rest In Peace Uncle Hugh!!! Take care Carol and family know that we all out here in Utah are praying for y'all!!!

We both send are deepest sympathies to my Dads wonderful and caring wife Carol of 47 years. Who stood by him when he lost his sight, and became the eyes and shoulder to lean on, to keep him active all these years and out there in the world was no easy undertaking, but she did it with the love and encouragement she showed to everyone. She was the rock he leaned on when his health worsened and he wasn't as able to get out and about and do the things he loved. She helped him find ways to continue to enjoy his music and keep involved with family and friends. Carol has always been the one to minister and care for friends and family and is a living example of angels walking on this earth if there ever was one. She always made me feel welcome, and made it known her home was my home as well. To my brother Timmons, who Carol and I joked often, was just as much a social butterfly as my Dad. We both were amazed at how nothing in town ever seemed to escape the both of them. If you wanted to know what so in so were doing, or what was happening in town, my Dad and Timmons were the ones to ask. To my brother Timmons I thank you for all the love and support you gave both Dad and your Mom when I couldn't be there. My heart goes out to you at the loss of our father, but I'm so glad that you, Rosie and Nicholas are there to support your Mom. My Dad is larger than life, and I know how loved and cherished he was by family and friends. We will just have to hold close those memories we have and cherish them, and let them help us get through this time of deep loss for us all. I love you Dad, I know you're in a better place and that you suffer no more. We also admire your strength in leaving this word with such courage and on your own terms. You've made a difference in our lives for the better, by being in it.
Love, Peace and Comfort To All.

Hugh was such an encouragement to me when I came back to Vidalia to work on the Oldies Station, WVOP, in 1994. He knew something, almost every day, about the songs I was playing. So sorry for your loss.
