Hugh C. TomlinJune 30, 1940 ~ September 18, 2017 (age 77)
Mr. Hugh C. Tomlin, age 77, of Vidalia, died Monday, September 18, 2017, at his home, after an extended illness. He was a native of Toombs County, and lived there most of his life. He was an electrician, and for many years, was a radio personality at WVOP in Vidalia, WBBT in Lyons, and WJHH in Soperton. He was Baptist by faith, a U.S. Coast Guard veteran, and was a member of Vidalia Masonic Lodge #330. In the 1960’s, he was a vocalist and guitarist with The Versatells, and had written more than a thousand country songs and more than a thousand gospel songs. He was a well-known local musician, playing at area nursing homes and at other events. He was preceded in death by a son, Wyatt C. Tomlin; his mother, Beulah T. King; and a brother, Donald R. Edenfield.
Mr. Tomlin is survived his wife of forty-seven years, Carol Lundy Tomlin of Vidalia; two sons, Thom Ball of Santee, California, and Timmons L. Tomlin and wife Rosie of Vidalia; one daughter, Erin Griner of Nashville, Georgia; one daughter-in-law, Lina F. Tomlin of DeKalb, Texas; three grandchildren, Joey Griner and wife Breanna, Jeron Griner, all of Nashville, and Nicholas, Tomlin of Vidalia; one aunt, Betty T. Morris of Santa Claus; one niece, three nephews, and several cousins.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 20th at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Joe Siman and Mr. George Powell officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens with Masonic Rites.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 until just prior to the service.
