Mt. Vernon,
Mr. Howard Dell “Duck” Thigpen, age 58, of Mt. Vernon, died Sunday, February 25, 2018, in the Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia, after a sudden illness. He was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County, and was a 1978 graduate of Montgomery County High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and served in the Army National Guard. He was Market Manager with Piggly Wiggly in Hazlehurst, and previously worked with the Piglet in Mt. Vernon for several years, and Harvey’s in McRae and Hazlehurst. He was a member and Past Master of the Masonic Lodge in Mt. Vernon and a former member of the Soperton Shrine Club. He was a member of the Montgomery County Horse Shoe Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Grace Johnson Thigpen; a brother, Roy Gene Thigpen; and a nephew, Dale Roberson.
Mr. Thigpen is survived by his wife, Cathy Thigpen of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Leigh Alexander and husband Kary of Waynesboro, and Mackenzie Thigpen of Mt. Vernon; one son, Dylan Thigpen of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Rachel Roberson and husband Greg of Waynesboro, and Dianne Green of Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren, Karleigh Alexander and Kellyn Alexander of Waynesboro; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 28th at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor B.L. Horne officiating. Burial will follow in the Braddy Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 until 8:00.
