Mrs. Helen “Tobie” Gillis, age 66 of Mt. Vernon, died Monday, February 4, 2013 in the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah after an extended illness. She was a native of Toombs County and lived in Montgomery County most of her life. For many years, she was employed at Hazlehurst Manufacturing and at Roydon Wear in Mt. Vernon. She was a member of the Bear Creek Baptist Church and attended the Glenwood Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband James E. Gillis; a son, Johnny Hall; a daughter, Mindy Hall; and five brothers, Pete, Gibbie, Blue, Bobby, and Clifford Hullender.

Mrs. Gillis is survived by one daughter, Shenna Fountain of Vidalia; two sons, James Hall and Beth of Uvalda and Jerry Hall of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Nancy Poole of Glenwood and Sally Thomas and Glenn Garrett of Vidalia; one brother, Lucky Hullender and Joyce of Orlando, Florida; six grandchildren, Johnny, Jake, Skyler, Katie, Dori, and J.M.; numerous nieces, nephews and a special friend, Randy Hooks.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 7th at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Ronny Saxon and Pastor Reece Mincey officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinecrest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
