Mr. Gordon Thursby, Jr., age 57 of the Toombs Central Community, died Monday, July 13, 2015, after a sudden illness while fishing in the Altamaha River.  He was a native of Quincey, Florida, lived in Volusia County, Florida most of his life, and has lived in Toombs Central since 1989.  He was a self-employed painter, a member of the Liberty Baptist Church in Lyons, and a former member of the Cobb Creek Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Wesley Thursby and Dotsy Burke Thursby; and a sister, Gail Hester.

Mr. Thursby is survived by his wife, Brenda Thursby of Toombs Central; five children, Terri McLendon and husband Jason, Heather McLendon and husband Scotty all of Toombs Central, Gordy Thursby and wife Jessica of the Johnson Corner Community, Sarah Vazquez and husband Lindy, and Brandy Edwards and George all of Charlotte, North Carolina; one sister, Regina Wall and husband James of Clinton, Tennessee; one brother, John Thursby of Waycross; sixteen grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, July 16th at 11:00 a.m. in the Cedar Crossing Baptist Church with Reverend Michael Plowman and Pastor Reece Mincey officiating.  Burial will follow in the Cobb Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
