Brantley County,

Mrs. Freeda Meeks O’Neal, age 90, of Waynesville, died Friday, January 16, 2015 at her home after a brief illness. She was born in Arkansas, lived in Hornersville, Missouri for several years, and moved to Lyons in 1941. She moved to Brunswick in 1959, and lived there until moving to Brantley County in 2001. She retired from the State of Georgia as a bridge operator on Jekyll Island, and was a member of the Pine Ridge Baptist Church in Brunswick. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl O’Neal in 2001; two sons, Gary Randall O’Neal and Troy Herbert O’Neal; and parents, Sam Meeks and Esther Martin Meeks Duncan; three siblings, Coy Duncan, Mozelle Smith, and Trudie Edwards.

Mrs. O’Neal is survived by two children, Daphene Anderson and husband Vester of Waynesville, and Doyle O’Neal and wife Dawn of Brunswick; one sister, Barbara Hero and husband Ron of Winamac, Indiana; one brother, David Duncan and wife Penny of Dowagiac, Michigan; one daughter-in-law, Mary O’Neal of Madison; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 20th at 11:00 a.m. in the Hardens Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Jeff O’Neal, Reverend Bryan O’Neal and Reverend Jarrell Lillard officiating. Burial will follow in the Hardens Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
