Mrs. Frances Thornton, age 83, of Vidalia, died Thursday, April 9, 2015 in Oxley Park Health and Rehabilitation in Lyons after an extended illness. She was a native of Glenwood and lived in various parts of the state before settling in Vidalia in 1968. She was a homemaker who loved her family very much and was Primitive Baptist by faith. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-seven years, George Thornton; parents, Harvey and Emma Couey; one brother, Jerald Couey; and one sister, Hazel Connell.
Mrs. Frances is survived by one daughter, Kay Thompson of Vidalia; one son, Rick Thornton and wife Debbi of Frisco, Texas; two brothers, Wayne Couey and wife Denise of Atlanta, and David Couey and wife Bunny of Macon; three grandchildren, Brooke Dunford and husband Kelly, Brad Thompson and wife Sabrina, and Krista Dotson and husband Jake; five great-grandchildren, Dustin Hamilton and wife Reanna, Danni Thompson, Leyton Dunford, Kyndall Dunford, and Ian Dotson; and several nieces and nephews.
The graveside service will be held in the Lakeview Memorial Gardens at 3:00 pm with Reverend David Daus officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 1:30 until 2:30, and then proceed to the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Health Foundation for Affinis Hospice at 1005 Boulder Drive, Gray, GA 31032.
