Mrs. Ethel L. O’Conner, age 96, of the Long Pond Community, died Sunday, May 21, 2017, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness. She was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County, retired from Oxford Industries after thirty-five years, and was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, “Buck” W.O’ Conner; a daughter, Nellie O’Conner Joyner; parents, Walter and Eudell Foskey Lawrence; and several siblings.
Mrs. O’Conner is survived by two sons, Emmett H. O’Conner and wife Marion of Jeff Davis County, and Johnny O’Conner of Long Pond; a daughter-in-law, Amber Prysock O’Conner of Vidalia; one sister, Vitus Lawrence Baker of Douglas; seven grandchildren, Joey Joyner of the Normantown Community, John O’Conner and wife Karen of Long Pond, Tracy Mason and husband Tim of Jeff Davis County, Amber Durrence and husband Shane of Vidalia, Kim Joyner of Normantown, Joni Joyner of Normantown, and Captain Jeffery R. O’ Conner of Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, and his wife Jamileth Montano-Rios of Pereira, Colombia; nine great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 24th at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Owen Waters officiating. Burial will follow in the Walker Cemetery near Alston.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
