Mrs. Virginia "Betsy" Poole Joyce, age 82, of Montgomery County passed away Monday, January 26, 2015 in the Meadows Regional Medical Center. Betsy was born on July 20, 1932 near the Charlotte Community in Montgomery County. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She worked as an educator in the Vidalia City School System, for Georgia Power as a Park Attendant at Lake Oconee for many years, and was a homemaker. She was a member of Charlotte United Methodist Church, and also attended Oak Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, gardening, fishing, and attending gospel and bluegrass festivals. The times she enjoyed most were spent with her family. She was a kind and gentle person, loved her Lord, and always had a positive outlook on life and people. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, MSgt. Garvis Joyce, USAF (Ret.), her sons, Ronnie and Gary, parents Homer Chester Poole and Zola Hughes Poole, and stepmother Penny Craft Poole, and her brother Douglas.
Mrs. Joyce is survived by her two devoted sons, Darrell and Phillip, both of Vidalia, daughter Debbie Jones and husband Bob of Vidalia, five grandsons Cody, Zach, Layton, Dawson, and Conner, sister Mary P. Cason of Uvalda, brother Joe Poole of Uvalda, sister-in-law Earline Drake and husband Emory of Vidalia, special niece Zola Cason of Hazlehurst, numerous nieces and nephews, special friends Skye Jordan, Deborah Hallman, Terri Kennedy, and Wiley and Anita Bush, and her beloved dog, Jeci Lu.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 29th at 1:00 p.m.in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Joe Burke officiating. Burial will follow in the Historic Dead River Cemetery near Uvalda.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
