Vidalia,
Mr. Benny Joe Bearden, age 71, of Vidalia, died Saturday, February 17, 2018, at his home, after an extended illness. He was a native of Mt. Vernon, and lived in Vidalia most of his life. He was a 1965 graduate of Vidalia High School, was a U.S. Air Force veteran, retired from Georgia Power after forty years, and was a member of the Ambassadors. He was a member of J. Barry Jones VFW Post #3563, American Legion Post #97 in Vidalia, and was a life member of Disabled American Veterans. He was a Fellow, and four-time Past Governor of Vidalia/Lyons Moose Lodge #1281. He was a member of Inman Creek Masonic Lodge #491 in Johnson Corner, the Quint Shrine Club in Lyons, and Alee Temple in Savannah. He was Baptist by faith, and attended the First United Methodist Church of Vidalia for twenty years, and was a member of the Men’s Bible Class. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd and Irene Hammock and Harry Bearden; and two nephews, Shane Williamson and Michael Bearden.
Mr. Bearden is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Bertha Clifton Bearden of Vidalia; one daughter, Susanne Clark; one grandson, Hunter Clark, both of Millen; one sister, Kathleen Sasser of Savannah; two brothers, Haskell Bearden and wife Faye of Milledgeville, and Lewis Bearden and wife Kathy of Pasadena, Maryland; several nieces, nephews, and a special friend James Miller.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 21st at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend David Blalock officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Mt. Zion Cemetery with Masonic Rites.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 until 7:00.
