Barbara Witt Bedingfield of Vidalia, Georgia, passed away Friday, August 19, 2016. She was 69 years old.  She was born January 11, 1947, in Atlanta, Georgia.  After graduating from Headland High School in 1965, she began her collegiate education at Middle Georgia College. Two years later, she transferred to the University of Georgia where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and became a lifelong Bulldog fan. While in Athens, she met her future husband and also gave birth to her daughter.

Barbara moved to Vidalia with her family in 1977. She was a devoted wife and homemaker who dedicated her life to taking care of her family. She volunteered her time by serving as a Brownie Troop leader and an officer in Beta Sigma Phi Service Sorority, and she was a very visible Friend of the School for the Vidalia City School System. She had taught Sunday School at Vidalia Presbyterian Church and previously enjoyed playing golf with the Ladies Golf Association at Vidalia Country Club. She also spent countless hours cheering on her daughter at softball fields and gymnasiums scattered across the state of Georgia.

Barbara was fun loving and never met a stranger. She was spontaneous and entertaining and was always up for telling a good story. She frequently put the needs of others ahead of herself. Animals gave her great joy, yet nothing made her happier than her three grandsons. She was meant to be a grandmother, and her grandsons absolutely adored their Baba.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Walter Hilbert Bedingfield, Jr., her daughter, Laura Kay Bedingfield Herakovich and husband, Russell John Herakovich, of Atlanta. She is also survived by her grandsons, Russell John Herakovich, Jr., Tucker Hilbert Herakovich, and Theodore Bennett Herakovich.       

Funeral services will take place Monday, August 22, 2016, at Vidalia Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. with Reverend Ron Gilreath officiating.

The family will receive visitors at Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home Sunday, August 21, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the Dr. W.H. Bedingfield Memorial Scholarship Fund at Ameris Bank.
